TARGETS
Screengrab editing techniques.
When you write about your own work (www and ebi) you need to look more closely and work out exactly what it is that you do well and what needs to be improved. At the moment you always write the same thing. Do you meet the success criteria?
When you take photographs, try different compositions, distances and points of focus so you have a breadth to choose from.
Look up Task
In this task you would have to look up at taller buildings that were interesting from a lower angle.

WWW: I took some good photos with a justified amount of sky. My exposure was good.
EBI: Did not take enough photos and need to take more in future tasks to completely finish task.

Mirroring Task
- Explain the task: 'In this task I developed....'
In this task I developed my photoshop skillset. You have to flip the images so that 4 of the same image blend into one. The scale of each image has to be the same and has to slide together perfectly.
WWW: I took some good pics of famous landmarks with a good amount of sky in the background. I got good composition and also a good lighting level. In photoshop I did a good job of editing them making huge skyscrapers like a flying saucer.
EBI: I could have edited the Tate modern photo better as there is a faint white line between two of the photos where they are not properly connected.

Four Composition Types
Triangle
LayersIn photography we’re trying to convert a world that exists in 3D onto a flat piece of paper or screen. To create the 3D effect in 2D, it helps to include layers in your composition.
If your subject is between layers, you instantly give the feeling of the photo being three dimensional. It also allows the viewer to feel like they’re part of the moment created with the image. |
Balance
My Response

Using Mirrors
introduce the task
In this task I was required to put a mirror down on the ground and think about the foreground and what is behind me. You have to think deeply about both sides of the photo and how to make it look interesting. I also had to consider depth of field as what was reflected was different to the rest of the surroundings.
Best Edits:
WWW: had a good depth of field in some photos and had good exposure
EBI: Found it difficult to take actual good photos as it was very hard in the school to find places and the subject matter not being interesting.

Formal Elements
Formal elements bring order to compositions. They are the language of picture making.
I focused on
Line, colour, tone, pattern, contrast, form, texture.

WWW: Found some good examples of some of the formal elements.
EBI: I found it very difficult to find every type of formal element. Also I did not think carefully enough about my composition.

Beauty in decay
Colin Winterbottom
Colin finds beauty in decay by zooming in to rust and other objects that are severely decaying making the photo look beautiful.
In this task I was required to find beauty in nature. This involved finding rusty pipes and foliage in places of decay. The foliage was a good juxtaposition to the destained wall.
BEST EDITS:
WWW: Found some good examples of beauty in decay and had good exposure in all of my photos.
EBI: I found it difficult to get close enough to get a cool effect like Winterbottom. Furthermore, I did not take enough photos to distinctly show the beauty in decay.

Independent development task
Mirroring:
Simon Gardiner
Gardiner uses in his photo series the simple mirroring effect with a perspective twist, which gives the images a kaleidoscopic feel. He deconstructs and reconstructs the photographs for a new visual reality, which he calls deconstructivism photography.
Best Edit:
After this first edit i realised it did not look a lot like Simon Gardiner so I put in a black and white filter and cropped out trees as Simon Gardiner did not focus on nature.
WWW: I took some good pictures from a high vantage point capturing the skyline of London. I had good exposure and composition. In my editing I balanced the exposure well and didn't over edit.
EBI: I could have taken more photos from a better height.
EBI: I could have taken more photos from a better height.
Development 2
WWW: I took photos of the river with good composition. I did not over edit which made the photo better.
Nicholas Kennedy- advancement on current work
Nicholas Kennedy uses the elliptical marquee tool to convert normally boring photos to ones the world is rotated in different segments.
first attempt
second attempt
This one didn't work due to the building not being large enough and having to do multiple buildings at once.
3rd attempt
This one was good due to the fact that one building was being contorted. However, the circles were not big enough leading to the the sky not entering the building as I wanted it to.
Development 3:
In this task I was required to start
What are your intentions in this final set?
My intentions in this final set was to create a good, successful response to the photographer Nicholas Kennedy

C The (Photographer’s name) was interested in this issue because (they felt it was relevant to us now…)
How do the materials and techniques used support your photographer’s intentions?
