CAMERA OBSCURA
A camera obsura is the ancient version of the modern day camera. It means in Latin 'dark chamber'. It consisted of a small dark room with light from a single tiny hole. The result was an inverted image that was projected onto a white wall. For years this technique was used to watch eclipses without damaging the viewers eyes. By the 16th century it was used as an aid to drawing as the image was used to trace the landscape. Portable versions were used and even pocket editions were created. The interior of the box was painted black and a mirror was used to make the image the right way round.

My Camera Obscura. Ft M1less
I made the camera by creating a box with two empty ends. On one of the ends I made a tiny hole and on the other one I attached tracing paper. Then we had to make a focal lens, which included making a tube of black card and attaching a magnified glass to the end. It was very hard to attach this focal lens without it falling off. We then had to get the camera into the right light which took a long time as if the camera was in the wrong light and the screen was too shadowed or too light. However, after getting the right light we sketched the image that was seen.
It was very hard, but very rewarding as we made a good final piece and final project. The focal length was the hardest part, but once that was done it was reasonably easy. Explain what the focal length is.

MY FIRST PHOTOGRAPHS
My camera settings:
For my first photographs I used many different camera settings. One of these were ISO 400. This is bang average for a camera and is perfect for someone who is starting off photography. Furthermore, I used AV (aperture priority) and that made it easy to blur a background or bring in more focus to the complete shot. The shutter speed was 1/60th of a second. This made the light balance perfectly and did not make the shots too dark or too light or too hard to shoot.
I did a mixture of man-made and natural to show that they can live in harmony.
I feel like I photographed the appropriate photos for the task at hand and I am proud to have taken these photos considering it was my first time. Sometimes I found it difficult to find the correct composure and I had to get into difficult and uncomfortable situations.

Shutter Speed
Shutter speed is how fast the shutter opens to let light into the camera.
Shutter speed is measured in fractions of a second or seconds.

MY FIRST SHUTTER SPEED ATTEMPT
This is my first attempt and as it was my first time using shutter speed and I didn't quite understand the process of it. However, in my next set of photos I understood the task and it looked a lot better.

EBI if you had edited the images so that the wall etc ran parallel to the edges of the photo.
LEVITATION.
In this task we were trying to make the model look like they were floating.

Francesca Woodman Analysis
What do you think Woodman’s intentions are? There may be more than one. ‘PEC’ each intention.
POINT: Francesca Woodmans intentions were to recreate her emotions.
Francesca Woodman intended to do this because she was struggling through mental issues at this time of her life.
EXAMPLE
She did this by hiding herself and hunching from the camera as if she was hiding from all of her emotions and was deflecting it off of her body rather than her brain.
COMMENT
She wanted us to think / react by thinking about how people can feel and what they do to stop their emotions.
What wider context was Woodman addressing?
POINT
Woodman is considering …... in this piece of work.
EXAMPLE
This is shown by… (describe something in the image)

How does Woodman’s style of photography and process support her intentions? (This could include scale, composition and / or process.)
POINT

In this process I changed the width and heigh of the image. After this I went onto layers and changed the black and white scales. I went back to the previous layer and edited the adjustment levels.
I did better on these than in
APERTURE
Aperture controls how much light enters the camera.
Aperture is the opening in the lens.
Depth of field is how much distance of focus the photo is.

there is a shallow depth of field in this photo as his knuckle which is near the camera lens is in focus. This means the depth of field is shallow as the focus length is small.

Eadweard Muybridge
Physiologist and photographer, Eadweard Muybridge worked all his life to uncover the truth of motion.
In 1877 Muybridge proved that all four of a horse’s hooves will leave the ground at one point when it is galloping.
A racetrack on had a photo shed that housed a bank of dozens of cameras. On the other side was an angled white wall. A series of wires ran from the angled wall every 21 inches to the shed where they pulled triggers connected to an electrical circuit.
When the horse ran down the track it would trip the wires, pull the trigger that snapped the shutters closed at one-thousandth of a second.
